Hudson Valley Energy Consultants (HVeC) is an independent consulting firm specializing in Energy Audits. We perform energy audits and offer consulting services for both residential and commercial properties in the Hudson Valley, including Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Rockland counties in New York -- and in Fairfield county Connecticut, too.

Energy Audits.  Our energy audit technicians are trained to find and evaluate a broad range of energy conservation problems. Using the latest equipment, including thermal imaging cameras, they'll find and explain the problems that are shrinking your energy dollar, then make detailed cost saving recommendations. After the audit, they'll outline a scope of work to help correct the problems. (See the Sample Report for detailed examples.)

Consulting Services.  If you decide to go ahead with the work, we can provide many articles for do it yourself-ers and for property owners who want to use their own staff and contractors.

Of course, most home and property owners prefer to engage HVeC to design and manage their energy conservation project. From energy efficient lighting to energy efficient renovations, we're ready to handle your project -- big or small -- from start to finish. HVeC will make contractor referrals to architects, engineers and builders, handle construction bidding, and coordinate your energy saving upgrades. We do the work; you reap the savings.

Remember: You don't need to spend a lot of money to see a savings in energy consumption and to feel more comfortable in your home or building. The simplest improvements can make a dramatic difference!

We offer a wide range of energy audits to help diagnose problems and outline a scope of work to correct them.

Hudson Valley Energy Consultants Audit Modules

HVeC offers several audit modules that can be completed individually or all at one time. A phone consultation can help you determine your needs. The extent of the audit will be determined at that time.

Full Energy Audit

Most clients select the Full Energy Audit, which includes a Visual Walk Through, Thermal Imaging, and a Written Report.

The Visual Walk Through includes a written report. It analyzes doors, windows, visible insulation levels, common areas of air leakage, age and condition of heating/cooling systems, kitchen appliances and lighting fixtures.

Thermal Imaging utilizes an infrared camera to determine large air leakage locations (drafts) and the effectiveness of insulation. Note: Although there is a misconception that an infrared camera can "see through walls", it can be an effective tool to determine air leakage.

Written Report A report is generated detailing not only the visual observations of the auditor but also the findings of the Thermal Imaging. Pictures of problem areas and thermal imaging results will be included. The report will list approximate costs for repairs, and the energy savings payback.

Thermal Imaging Only

This is the thermal imaging part of the Full Energy Audit discussed above. Thermal imaging will be performed and a written analysis will be provided.

Blower Door Test

With all the windows and doors closed, we install a fan unit in one of the door openings to de-pressurize the building. This causes outside air to be pulled in replacing the air in the building. This allows us to determine the overall leakage in the house (how much heat we are losing through cracks and holes in the house) and where the major leaks are.
